More Than Half of Nation's Medical Schools Sign Up For MD Consult Clinical Information Service

ST. LOUIS -- The nation's future physicians are embracing the Internet as a powerful research and learning tool, now that the majority of U.S. medical schools are providing access to MD Consult, announced the online clinical information service today. New licensees that helped push medical school subscriptions past the 50 percent mark include Harvard Medical School, the Mayo Foundation for Medical Education and Research, and Stanford University.

Through licensing agreements with more than 70 U.S. medical schools, MD Consult is available to thousands of clinicians, faculty, residents and other clinical staff, as well as medical students. The service includes full-text clinical content from a comprehensive range of trusted medical sources.

"I think the word 'rave' is appropriate when describing my first-hand experience with MD Consult," says Luis Maldonado, MD, Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the University of South Florida. "I teach medical students, interns and residents. My number one use will be to teach them how fast and easy it is to find information in the site."

Additional benefits provided by MD Consult include the convenience of 24-hour access; the trustworthiness of accessing information from peer-reviewed medical resources; and the efficiency of searching one or all of the site's reference materials at once.

"I'm really impressed with the depth and quality of textbooks and other resources," says Gretchen Arnold, associate director for library operations at the University of Virginia Health Sciences Library. "For the first time, these resources are together in one place, allowing users to search seamlessly."

Other prominent U.S. academic medical centers that have recently licensed the MD Consult online clinical information service are:
