Newswise — ARLINGTON, Va., Feb. 09, 2011 – Mission Solutions Engineering announced today that the company is renewing its collaboration effort with Rowan University’s Department of Computer Science, awarding the Glassboro, N.J., University a three-year, $425,000 contract to develop innovative enhancements for several of the company’s initiatives.

Dr. Adrian Rusu, associate professor of computer science at Rowan University, will lead graduate and undergraduate students participating in the program as they perform analysis and software development. Students plan to build a visual aid to help MSE rapidly identify and isolate hardware, software or configuration problems. They will also build on last year’s work on MSE’s Advanced Display Infrastructure toolset, developing enhancements that allow users greater flexibility in how they use various product features.

An addition to the renewed collaboration program for the current academic year offers students the opportunity to work with MSE engineers on an enhancement effort based on their own classroom projects. Rusu’s software engineering students will demonstrate projects they completed in response to proof-of-concept ideas provided by MSE. MSE executives and developers will select one project for sponsorship and enhancement under the company’s contract with Rowan, based on the project’s suitability for MSE customers.

The MSE/Rowan collaboration also extends a co-op program currently in the planning stages for University-sponsored master’s level courses at MSE facilities.

“We are very excited to renew our partnership with Rowan University,” said Tim Caswell, MSE president and chief executive officer. “The collaboration merges exceptional industry experience with fresh and innovative perspectives, allowing MSE to offer leading-edge solutions to our customers.”

In exchange, Rowan computer science students gain “real-world” experience not usually available to students. They will participate in all aspects of the project management, which will include developing project plans, delivering regular status presentations to MSE executives, completing comprehensive testing and quality assurance and delivering user manuals once the new features are implemented.
