Newswise — By the summer of 2011, southwest suburban residents will have easy access to world-class care in neurosciences and musculoskeletal care from Loyola University Health System physicians. Ground was broken today for the Loyola Center for Health at Burr Ridge, which will occupy two floors of the 100,000-square-foot center at 6800 N. Frontage Road.
"Loyola's vision for the future includes enhancing care for the communities we serve and bringing Loyola programs closer to patients in convenient and comprehensive ambulatory centers," said Dr. Paul K. Whelton, MB, MD, MSc, president and chief executive officer of the health system. "This new facility will allow us to broaden access to specialists in these two key service lines as well as offer patients ancillary services and testing in one convenient location," he added.
The plan calls for Loyola to lease 70,000 square feet of office space in the building. The facility is scheduled to be operational by July 2011. Just 12 miles from Loyola's medical center campus in Maywood, the center's site is visible from both the Stevenson Expressway (I-55) and County Line Road. The developer is Sterling Bay Companies of Chicago.
In addition to its anchor services of orthopaedic and neuroscience specialists, numerous complementary services will be offered at the new facility. They include: a "Center for the Senses," which encompasses otolaryngology, ophthalmology, audiology as well as an optical shop and hearing center.
The center also will offer an immediate care center, a sports medicine program, pain management, a sleep center, an infusion center and a laboratory. In addition, a long list of medical and surgical specialists who partner with these physicians will be available to patients requiring consultation. Therapeutic and rehabilitation services, including aquatic therapy, day rehabilitation, cardiac rehabilitation as well as traditional physical, occupational and speech therapy will all have a home at Loyola's new center.
Leading-edge diagnostics, including CT, diagnostic radiography, ultrasound and MRI, will help to support the specialists on site but also will be available to patients who are interested in Loyola quality diagnostic services and radiologists on site will assure a prompt interpretation for referring physicians.
"We will offer comprehensive and multidisciplinary care at the Burr Ridge facility,“ said Daniel Post, senior vice president of ambulatory programs and system services. "For example, an athlete with a knee injury could come here initially to see a physician in our immediate care center, see a sports medicine specialist, if necessary be referred to an orthopaedic surgeon, and then receive pre-surgery imaging as well as post-operative care and rehabilitation. The facility also will be integrated into Loyola’s system-wide electronic medical record so that information needed is instantly available to clinicians, patients, and referring physicians. Patients are increasingly busy and have asked us for convenient one-stop care, and we plan to deliver this patient-centered care in our Burr Ridge facility."
