Newswise — The American Academy of Otolaryngology " Head and Neck Surgery Foundation (AAO-HNSF) has named Robert D. Olson as Director of Development for the association. In his new position, Olson will plan and implement a comprehensive fund development program to strengthen and sustain the Academy's strategic plan.

"Bob is no stranger to healthcare and the challenges of the demand for funding research and education, and we believe he'll use his experience to sustain the Academy's mission and realize its future goals," said AAO-HNSF Executive Vice President and Chief Executive Officer David R. Nielsen, MD. "It's critical that an association has a strong team in place to help guide its future, and anytime you can bring aboard a senior level leader with the qualifications and experience that Bob Olson has, you feel fortunate."

Olson said he's ready for this latest challenge. "My interest in the Academy was fostered by the importance of working for a prestigious national, not-for-profit organization, associated with physicians, where there is an exceptional staff working together to make a real difference," Olson said. "My goal is to help this association achieve its mission of advancing the quality of healthcare for physicians and patients worldwide."

Olson brings to the Academy over 18 years of fund development experience for not-for-profit organizations. He has worked previously as a senior consultant for Los Angeles-based Marshall Howard & Associates, where he developed an innovative philanthropy program, and as Vice President of Fund Development for the Washoe Medical Center in Reno, NV, where Olson developed and implemented strategic plans to fund major gifts and endowments. Olson has also spearheaded a number of successful capital campaigns, including the construction of several hospitals and medical facilities.
