Statement by

DR. RUZENA BAJCSY ASSISTANT DIRECTOR, COMPUTER AND INFORMATION SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING, NATIONAL SCIENCE FOUNDATION

On the announcement that Dr. Fran Berman will succeed Dr. Sid Karin as director of the National Partnership for Advanced Computational Infrastructure (NPACI) at the San Diego Supercomputer Center (SDSC)

I congratulate Dr. Fran Berman on the announcement that she will succeed Dr. Sid Karin as director of NPACI and SDSC. Dr. Berman is an excellent choice due to her prominence in the research field of distributed computation and her long association with the NSF-funded activities at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD). Through NSF's Partnership for Advanced Computational Infrastructure program -- which funds NPACI to provide advanced computational tools to researchers across the U.S. -- I look forward to working with her.

We at NSF and the research community as a whole owe a great debt to Sid Karin for his leadership. Thanks in large part to him, UCSD has maintained for many years its lofty reputation for high-performance computing research, and I am glad he will remain there as a strategic advisor.
