Newswise — IOP Publishing celebrated the 10th anniversary of New Journal of Physics (www.njp.org) on December 17th. This milestone marked a decade of serving the science community by providing permanently free access to peer-reviewed research covering all areas of physics. Launched as a joint venture with the Deutsche Physikalische Gesellschaft in 1998, NJP had a simple aim - to publish physics research of outstanding quality and to remove financial barriers for all readers. Now, 10 years, more than 2,000,000 downloads and over 1,500 published articles later, we are delighted to see NJP placed not only at the forefront of the open-access movement, but also as a leading, internationally renowned journal in its own right.

To celebrate, the journal's Editorial Board have chosen their favorite NJP articles from the last 10 years and have showcased them in an exclusive 10th Anniversary Highlights compilation featuring specially written summaries by the original authors. The online version of this collection, together with a series of interviews with some of the featured authors is freely available at http://njp.org/10years.
