Newswise — Brick, NJ – Ocean Medical Center has once again earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval™ for its Hip and Knee Joint Replacement Program by demonstrating compliance with The Joint Commission’s national standards for health care quality and safety in disease-specific care. The certification award recognizes Ocean Medical Center’s dedication to continuous compliance with The Joint Commission’s rigorous standards.

Ocean Medical Center underwent an intensive on-site survey this fall. A Joint Commission expert evaluated Ocean for compliance with standards of care specific to the needs of patients and families, including infection prevention and control, leadership and medication management. Employees and doctors were interviewed, facilities were inspected, and patient charts received thorough evaluation and scrutiny.

"With Joint Commission certification, we are making a significant investment in quality on a day-to-day basis. The accreditation provides us a framework to take our program to the next level and helps support a culture of excellence that is optimal for patient outcomes,” says Arthur K. Mark, M.D., co-medical director of the joint replacement program at Ocean. “Achieving Joint Commission re-certification in hip and knee replacement demonstrates our commitment to maintain excellence and continually improve the care we provide.”

"In achieving Joint Commission certification, Ocean Medical Center has demonstrated its commitment to the highest level of care for its patients undergoing hip and knee replacements" says Michele Sacco, M.S., interim executive director, Certification Programs. “Certification is a voluntary process and I commend Ocean Medical Center for successfully undertaking this challenge to elevate its standard of care and instill confidence in the community it serves.”

Ocean Medical Center’s joint replacement program is comprised of many components that ensure quality care, close to home. The program has Board Certified surgeons, nationally certified nurses specializing in joint replacement, a Magnet award winning nursing team, Doctorate prepared physical and occupational therapists, advanced equipment and facilities, and a dedicated joint program liaison and coordinator.

Joseph P. Bogdan, M.D., co-medical director, says, “Our community members can be assured that quality orthopedic services with outcomes that rival big city facilities are available close to home, providing a level of convenience and personal concern that is unparalleled. Endorsements from agencies such as The Joint Commission validate the exceptional work that is being done and our commitment to restore patients to their individual optimum level of functioning.”

“We have a phenomenal team behind Ocean’s joint replacement program. I’m extremely proud of their efforts and ability to achieve this distinguished accreditation for a second consecutive time,” says Dean Q. Lin, FACHE, president of Ocean Medical Center. “Patients are choosing to come to Ocean for joint replacement services because of the level of excellence and great outcomes that are proof of the team’s abilities.”
