According to "The Quest for the Spin Transistor" in the December issue of IEEE Spectrum, a new form of electronics is viable. A fundamental, though elusive, property of electrons and other subatomic particles, spin may be applicable to the densest of memories and even to the basic building blocks of digital electronics--logic circuits. Proponents envision spin being applied to an entirely new form of electronics, call spintronics, in which the spin of electrons is used to control the movement of charge.
