Pathologists Honored at Physician Annual Meeting

College of American Pathologists names Pathologist of the Year, among other awards for patient care, education, and leadership

Chicago (October 22, 2018)—During ceremonies at CAP18, the 2018 annual meeting of the College of American Pathologists (CAP) in Chicago, October 20–24, pathologists were honored for their excellence in the medical specialty that is responsible for diagnosing disease and overseeing medical laboratories.

The CAP named Richard C. Friedberg, MD, PhD, FCAP, as Pathologist of the Year for his active involvement with CAP councils and committees, his tireless advocacy on behalf of patients, and his strong leadership during his 2015–2017 term as president of the CAP, the largest organization of board-certified pathologists.

While serving on the CAP’s Council on Government and Professional Affairs, Risk Management Committee, International Accreditation Committee, and Public Health Policy Committee, among others, Dr. Friedberg spent 17 years as chair of pathology at Baystate Health and as a professor of pathology at Tufts University and the University of Massachusetts.

The CAP recognized 17 other member and resident pathologists for their commitment to laboratory medicine, their work with the CAP in ensuring quality and safety, and their role in improving health care for patients.
