Newswise — Paul Ellenbogen, MD, FACR, of Dallas, was elected chair of the American College of Radiology (ACR) Board of Chancellors. Ellenbogen is a senior attending radiologist at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas, and a partner in Radiology Associates of North Texas. He is also a clinical professor of radiology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas.

The former vice chair of the Board of Chancellors was elected to serve as chair from April 2012 to April 2013, and thereafter will be eligible to be re-elected for an additional year. The position became effective April 24, 2012, during the ACR’s 89th Annual Meeting and Chapter Leadership Conference, held in Washington, DC, April 21-25, 2012.

Ellenbogen is also chair of the ACR Commission on Government Relations and the ACR Commission on International Relations and is former chair of the ACR Budget and Finance Committee and ACR Governance Committee. He also serves as chair of the Radiology Political Action Committee (RADPAC) and on the editorial board of the Journal of the American College of Radiology (JACR). Ellenbogen has previously served on the ACR Council and Council Steering Committee, as well as serving as ACR vice speaker, ACR speaker and ACR treasurer/secretary.

He is former president of the Texas Radiological Society and serves on the Expert Physician Panel of the Texas State Board of Medical Examiners. Ellenbogen was awarded the Gold Medal of the TRS in 2009. He received his medical degree from the State University of New York Downstate School of Medicine. He also earned a bachelor of science in chemistry from Brown University.

ACR Vice Chair — Bibb Allen, Jr., MD, FACR, was elected by the Board of Chancellors to serve as Vice Chair from April 2012 to April 2013, and thereafter will be eligible to be re-elected for an additional year. Allen is the former chair of the American College of Radiology Commission on Economics and former ACR representative to the AMA/Specialty Society RVS Update Committee (the RUC). He is a diagnostic radiologist in the Birmingham Radiological Group, Birmingham, AL.

ACR President — John A. Patti, MD, FACR, of Boston, was elected by the Council to serve as ACR President. Patti is the immediate past chair of the ACR Board of Chancellors. He is a thoracic radiologist at Massachusetts General Hospital and serves as faculty at Harvard Medical School. Patti is a past president of the Massachusetts Radiological Society, and former chair of the ACR Commission on Economics. In addition to serving as president of the ACR, he is the vice-chair of the ACR Commission on International Relations. He also serves on the Executive Committee of the ACR and on the editorial board of the Journal of the American College of Radiology (JACR).

ACR Vice President — Paul A. Larson, MD, FACR was elected by the Council to serve as ACR Vice President. Larson is in private practice as a general radiologist in Oshkosh, WI. He is a member of the ACR Board of Chancellors, Executive Committee and Budget and Finance Committee. Prior to serving as ACR Vice-President, Larson was chair of the ACR Commission on Quality and Safety and served as a member of the ACR Council Steering Committee.
