Newswise — The U.S. Surgeon General estimates that 1 in 5 children and adolescents experiences the signs and symptoms of a mental health disorder during the course of a year, and that about 1 in 10 children experiences “significant functional impairment” as a result. Mental health disorders can last for short periods of time or potentially for a lifetime. But it is important for patients and his or her loved ones to understand that with proper treatment he or she can return to normal daily life.
