Newswise — Kalpana S. Katti, professor and graduate program coordinator in the Department of Civil Engineering at North Dakota State University, Fargo, was named a top cited author in the five colloids journals of Elsevier, a leading publisher of science and technology journals.

"Biomaterials in total joint replacement," an article Katti published in 2004 in Colloids and Surfaces B: Biointerfaces journal, was one of the top 50 most cited articles published in Elsevier's colloids journals from 2004-07.

The colloids journals are accessible by institutes worldwide. Nearly 5,000 institutes have access to the journals via ScienceDirect, an online resource offering scientific, medical and technical information. Almost 2.7 million full-text articles were downloaded from the journals in 2006.

Katti earned her doctorate from the University of Washington, Seattle, and joined the NDSU faculty in 2000. She received the NDSU Peltier Award for Innovation in Teaching in 2007, the NDSU College of Engineering and Architecture Researcher of the Year Award in 2003 and a National Science Foundation CAREER Award in 2002. She is a fellow of the Faculty Institute for Excellence in Learning. She is responsible for more than 80 peer-reviewed publications.
