Newswise — It’s a new destination for health care for hundreds of patients in northwest Ohio. The new ProMedica Health and Wellness Center connects patients to a wide variety of healthcare services under the same roof including primary care, radiology and laboratory, urgent care and other outpatient specialty services.

The three-story, 230,000-square-foot facility houses more than 100 healthcare providers including specialists in areas such as vascular medicine, bariatrics, mental health and more. ProMedica will host a community celebration on Saturday, Feb. 6 which will include tours, live entertainment, a health fair and free giveaways.

“Every detail of this facility was designed to make health care easier to access and more convenient for patients. We also saw the opportunity to provide better coordinated care by centralizing a multitude of programs and services. This new model will significantly improve communication between providers and encourage a more collaborative approach to patient care,” said Daniel Cassavar, MD, president, ProMedica Physicians.

When patients arrive, they are referred to a centralized registration desk where they receive a pager that allows them to walk around freely until their appointment time. While patients wait, they may tour the facility that is filled with beautiful artwork provided by the Toledo Museum of Art or stop by the onsite café. Patient waiting areas are located throughout the building with contemporary furnishings and large-screen televisions that broadcast important patient information and other health programming from ProMedica’s internal television network.

“Health care is very segregated and fragmented. This new environment allows for better patient care and collaboration,” says Stephen Reed, MD, ProMedica Physicians Eye Care.

Prior to relocating to the new health and wellness center, Dr. Reed and other providers were located in separate medical practices across metropolitan Toledo. Now they can simply walk down the hall for a patient consultation. Private collaboration rooms are also available for clinicians to meet and discuss a patient’s care plan. Due to the proximity of medical practices, many patients may receive same-day referrals for diagnostic testing or to see a specialist.

Additional services within the new center include:- Pharmacy- Endoscopy center- Optical store- Pediatric waiting area with fun and interactive activities for children - Large community education room for seminars and other education programs- Food pantry staffed by dieticians and other wellness consultants

“Our strategy with the artwork, open and contemporary design, and various amenities is to create a welcoming and healing environment,” said Dr. Cassavar. “Our ultimate goal is to create an outstanding patient experience.”

Green building principles were utilized throughout ProMedica Health and Wellness Center. Additionally, there are high-efficiency heating, cooling and ventilation systems. Walls of glass allow an abundance of natural light into the facility and portions of the building are open to the elements and landscaped with flowers and trees.

Approximately 1,500 patients a day are expected to visit the new center.
