PSYCHIATRISTS INVITE MEDIA AWARD SUBMISSIONS

May 30, Washington, DC--Broadcast, print, and on-line journalists are invited to submit entries to the annual media awards competition of the American Psychiatric Association. The 2001 APA awards will honor outstanding contributions by members of the media and media outlets to the public understanding of mental illnesses, psychiatric treatment, and psychiatry.

The APA awards competition encompasses two awards: one for broadcast journalism, the Robert T. Morse Award, and the other for print media, the Robert L. Robinson Award. On-line or "new" media currently is included in the print category. To be eligible for the 2001 awards, entries must have been broadcast or published between August 1, 1999 and July 31, 2000.

Each award carries a $1,000 honorarium. Presentation of both awards will be made at the APA's 154th Annual Meeting in New Orleans during May 2001.
