Newswise — Explosives Camp at Missouri University of Science and Technology will be open to media on three Wednesdays this month: June 9, June 16 and June 23.

The camp is held annually for high school students interested in the science of explosives. Students learn how explosives are used in demolition, mining and entertainment industries.

Missouri S&T became the first university in the nation to offer a minor in explosives engineering in 2005. Recently, a new master’s degree program in explosives engineering was approved.

Explosives expert Dr. Paul Worsey, a professor of mining engineering at S&T, started the summer camp for high school students in 2004. The camp has been covered in previous years by various media outlets, including the New York Times and National Public Radio.

During media days (June 9, June 16 and June 23), reporters may visit between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. To make arrangements, call the public relations office at Missouri S&T: 573-341-4328.
