Newswise — The Rusk Institute of Rehabilitation Medicine, NYU Langone Medical Center announced today that Tamara Bushnik, PhD, FACRM, associate professor of rehabilitation medicine and director of research at Rusk was elected president of the American Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine (ACRM). Dr. Bushnik’s term will commence this week, at the conclusion of the 88th ACRM Annual Conference in Atlanta, Georgia.
“Dr. Bushnik is playing a key role in strengthening the integration of clinical and research activities at Rusk by increasing the focus on conditions that have significant impact on society, such as traumatic brain injuries and neuromuscular disorders,” said Steven Flanagan, MD, professor and chair of rehabilitation medicine at Rusk. “We are so proud that she has been recognized for her leadership and chosen by her peers for this important position.”
An expert in physical medicine and rehabilitation (PM&R), Dr. Bushnik received her PhD in Psychology/Neurosciences at the University of Ottawa and her postdoctoral training at Stanford University. She joined Rusk in 2009, bringing her interest in community integration and independent living from a multidisciplinary perspective. She is well-published in peer-reviewed rehabilitation publications, and has reviewed articles for Archives of PM&R, American Journal of PM&R, Journal of Head Trauma Rehabilitation, and Brain Injury. Dr. Bushnik has been an active member of ACRM for nearly fifteen years, serving as ACRM Program Chair from 2005-2009 and receiving the Distinguished Member award in 2008. In 2009, Dr. Bushnik was awarded the Fellow of ACRM and subsequently appointed vice president. She recently chaired the 3rd Federal Interagency Conference on TBI that took place in Washington, DC this past June.
