Sandia to host Electrical Energy Storage Systems Applications and Technologies Conference
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Sandia National Laboratories, a Department of Energy national laboratory, will co-host the Conference on Electrical Energy Storage Applications and Technologies (EESAT2002), April 15-17. Sponsored by Sandia, the DOE, and the Electricity Storage Association, the conference will be held at the Sir Francis Drake Hotel in San Francisco, Calif., USA.
International technical and commercial experts will emphasize the latest developments of the use of electricity storage in the power industry. Electricity storage technologies are increasing in their scope and performance and bring commercial and technical benefits to the power industry. Attendees from utility companies from across North and South America, Europe, Asia and Southern Africa are already booked to hear the latest developments in this arena, making this an exciting and up-to-the-minute event.

At the April conference, international technical and commercial experts will emphasize the latest developments of the use of electricity storage in the power industry. Attendees representing utility companies from across North and South America, Europe, Asia and Southern Africa are already booked to hear the latest developments in this arena, making this an exciting and up-to-the-minute event.
Sandia administers the DOE Energy Storage Systems Program, which has as its goal the successful implementation of an energy storage program that will increase the nation's energy security; reduce the environmental impact of electricity generation, transmission, and use; and increase the value to utilities of diverse generation options such as distributed power and renewable resources.
The EESAT2002 conference is intended for the dissemination of papers on specific electrical energy storage technologies and applications, with an emphasis on the latest commercial developments for the use of electricity storage in the power industry.
Following on the success of EESAT2000, also co-hosted by Sandia, EESAT2002 will address the full range of electrical energy technologies, including conventional and advanced battery energy storage, super capacitors, SMES, flywheels, compressed air energy storage (CAES) and pumped hydro. Both technical and economic papers from international sources will be presented.
Planned sessions for the conference include electrical energy storage applications and technologies, multi-megawatt applications, power electronics and conversion systems for energy storage applications, battery applications and testing, systems analysis, super-capacitor theory applications, high performance flywheels and flywheel applications.
According to Dr. Phil Symons, chairman of the Electricity Storage Association (ESA), "This year's conference will show attendees the many valuable opportunities that are emerging in this rapidly growing field. The market for non-traditional energy storage to electricity suppliers and their customers has grown more than tenfold in the past year or so."
