ScienceWise.com Adds Strategic Partnerships:
Congressional Quarterly, National Academy Press,
Web-Diggers, SciJobs and Wanted Technologies
Agreements add E-commerce and content to web site for scientists and engineering

Gaithersburg, MD, (May 2, 2000): ScienceWise.com, the workplace on the Web for science and engineering, has completed strategic partnerships with some of the world's most prestigious publishers and technology organizations. The partnerships will provide access to science and engineering-related books and articles on ScienceWise.com, enrich the site's science policy section, add customized in-depth searches and increase the number of searchable scientific and engineering jobs in its Career Center. Additionally, the partnerships provide opportunities to boost shared revenues between ScienceWise.com and its partners, generated by e-commerce sales transactions and web site advertising.

"We are excited about the content and e-commerce opportunities presented by these prestigious partners," said John Rodman, President and CEO of ScienceWise.com. "We want ScienceWise.com to be the first web site that scientists and engineers go to every morning, and these additions make our site an essential source for them. Our goal is to make the professional life of the scientist and engineer easier so that more time can be devoted to scientific discovery."

Through an agreement with The Congressional Quarterly (CQ), ScienceWise.com will post and sell science-related articles from The CQ Researcher, including past issues. Summaries, photos and tables of content will be available for free, but entire articles will be available to ScienceWise.com registered members for a fee. The CQ Researcher is an award-winning publication used by thousands of high school, college and university libraries, as well as news organizations, all across the country. CQ provides information on government, politics and public policy through print and electronic publications and services. Content from CQ will join ScienceWise.com's science policy information from the National Academies Op-Ed Service.

Under a new partnership, ScienceWise.com can provide its members with descriptions of books, tables of content, and links to the full online text of over 1,500 National Academy Press (NAP) publications and those published under the NAP's imprint, Joseph Henry Press (JHP). ScienceWise.com will provide the means to purchase these publications, resulting in revenues that will be shared by both NAP and ScienceWise.com. NAP publishes reports issued by the National Academies, which includes the National Academy of Sciences, the National Academy of Engineering, the Institute of Medicine, and the National Research Council. NAP and JHP together publish hundreds of science and engineering books each year
The Web-diggers and ScienceWise.com agreement provides both content and e-commerce opportunities. ScienceWise.com offers a free WebWise Question of the Month powered by Web-diggers, a Belgium-based company that blends Internet technology with real people who perform custom research. The free WebWise is an interactive column that each month researches and answers one question submitted by ScienceWise.com members, such as where to find information on disability research. Web-diggers has a staff of full-time information specialists who combine expertise in a particular domain such as science or business and who provide customized searches, delivering their response in one of several levels of comprehensiveness and at various fees. The agreement calls for shared revenues between ScienceWise.com and Web-diggers when a customized search is ordered by a ScienceWise.com user.

The partnerships with scijobs.org and Wanted Technologies enhance ScienceWise.com's Career Center and provide for revenue sharing from advertising and sponsorships on the Career section of the web site. scijobs.org offerings are already in the Career Center, providing search access to over 11,000 science and engineering jobs from more than 350 employers. scijobs.org spiders nonprofit, academic, and corporate sites on the web to find jobs that aren't normally listed on job boards. In addition, the partnership allows ScienceWise.com's members to post their resumes, search for information on employers, and register for weekly e-mail job alerts.

Wanted Technologies, the leading syndicator of online career centers for e-businesses, will provide ScienceWise.com with its job meta search solution, Wanted Jobs Online. The solution will allow ScienceWise.com patrons to simultaneously query over 40 job sites, giving access to over three million job offers in the United States alone.
