Newswise — Globalization and rapid technological change are rewriting the rules of competition. Information technology advances are accelerating productivity by providing a multitude of new, lower-cost options for integrating global supply chains. To help companies cope with these changes and gain the knowledge and skills necessary to compete in global markets, Clarkson University's School of Business trains corporate executives on ways to integrate their supply chains effectively to meet rising customer expectations and declining product life cycles at a reasonable cost.

The 6th annual Global Supply Chain Management Executive Seminar will be held at Clarkson University August 8th through the 11th. The four-day professional seminar will be sponsored by IBM Global Business Services and IDEX Corporation.

During the seminar, a multidisciplinary faculty team, including professors Farzad Mahmoodi, Rajesh Sethi, Mary Graham, Boris Jukic, Mike Wasserman and Heimo Losbichler, will review and discuss state-of-the-art concepts and practical tools in supply chain management. Professor Farzad Mahmoodi, director of the Supply Chain Management Program and associate dean of the School of Business, will be directing the seminar.

Specific topics to be presented include: Inventory management and logistics strategies, Global sourcing, Information and communications technology for supply chain decision making, supply chain decision distribution channels management, improving supply chain performance through human resource management, measuring the supply chain financial performance, and aligning supply chain management with corporate strategy.

"The Executive Seminar offers professionals a complete organizational and systems view of how to manage their companies," stated Steven F. Marsh, director of Engineering & Global Operations Management Program and director of marketing for the seminar. "The supply chain seminar provides a start to finish prospective that is multidisciplinary in nature because of the topics and the background of the faculty who will lead different sessions during the week." In addition, attendees will participate in several team and hands-on activities designed to reinforce key concepts. They will also have plenty of opportunities to network with other industry professionals and Clarkson faculty.

Supply Chain executives from Stanley, Dell, Alcoa, Corning, IBM, IDEX, Lockheed Martin, National Grid, General Electric Supply, General Electric Energy, Hand Held Products, Welch Allyn, Northrop Grumman, Velcro USA, and Lenovo will be in attendance. Approximately 40 business professionals from 16 companies from New York state, California, Texas and nine other states from across the nation will attend the four-day conference.
