Want to start a senior adult theatre group?
Martha Haarbauer, UAB Theatre instructor and author of "Seasoned Theatre: A Guide to Creating and Maintaining a Senior Adult Theatre" discovered it wasn't a simple task when she was approached 17 years ago to start a senior adult theatre. Her experiences are the inspiration for her new book.
Haarbauer offers advice on how to: 1) organize, recruit, and work with older actors; 2) choose appropriate material; 3) make technical decisions; 4) locate a place to work; 5) attract audiences, and most important; 6) how to generate funds. Haarbauer is quick to point out that her group didn't start out large. "We learned how much we could do with nothing and also that long life is a vast resource for theatre material."
