Newswise — Leadership Excellence magazine has named six current or former professors at USC's Marshall School of Business in its top 100 thought leaders on leadership issues.

"USC Marshall has been blessed for many years now to be the intellectual home of these great professors, thinkers, writers and researchers on leadership issues," said USC Marshall Dean James G. Ellis. "It's wonderful that Leadership Excellence magazine has recognized their achievements as well. We're proud of all that they've done and all that they've brought to USC Marshall."

University Professor Warren Bennis of USC Marshall is ranked No. 4 on the list. Bennis, co-author of the about-to-be-released "Judgment: How Winning Leaders Make Great Calls" and 27 other books on leadership issues, has advised four U.S. presidents and more than 150 CEOs in his storied career.

Other USC Marshall professors on the Thought Leaders list include No. 34 Morgan McCall Jr., professor of management and organization. McCall recently was named the 2008 recipient of the Distinguished Professional Contributions Award from the Society of Industrial and Organizational Psychology, the group's highest honor.

Ed Lawler, No. 57 on the magazine's list, is director of USC Marshall's Center for Effective Organizations and Distinguished Professor of Business. Earlier this year, he became the only person to win both of the most prestigious prizes of the Academy of Management when he received its 2007 Distinguished Scholar-Practitioner Award.

Also on the Leadership Excellence list are former long-time USC Marshall professors James O'Toole at No. 23, Jay Conger at No. 25 and Ian Mitroff at No. 89. O'Toole and Lawler collaborated on the influential 2006 book, "The New American Workplace." Mitroff retired from USC Marshall in 2006.
