AMERICAN ACADEMY OF DERMATOLOGY PROVIDES SKIN SCREENINGS TO ATHLETES AT THE 1999 SPECIAL OLYMPICS WORLD SUMMER GAMES

WHAT: As part of the Special Olympics Healthy Athlete Program, the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) will provide skin screenings to the athletes at the 1999 Special Olympics World Summer Games.

WHO: Through the AAD's Healthy Skin Program, North Carolina dermatologists will volunteer their time and expertise to provide free skin screenings for the 7,000 athletes from around the world.

WHEN: Saturday, June 26 - 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Sunday, June 27 - Thursday, July 1 - 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

WHERE: F.P. Graham Student Center TV Lounge University of North Carolina Raleigh Street and South Road Chapel Hill, NC

WHY: The AAD is committed to educating the Special Olympic athletes about a lifetime of healthier skin, hair, and nails. Like all athletes, Special Olympians are prone to common skin conditions that can be directly attributed to their participation in sports. In addition, certain dermatologic conditions are more prevalent for most Special Olympic athletes and others with mental retardation.
