On Mark-up of NSF FY2000 Budget by
Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on VA, HUD and Independent Agencies
I am pleased that the Senate Appropriations Committee is supporting the National Science Foundation's FY2000 budget request, even in the face of tough choices. Senator Kit Bond and Senator Barbara Mikulski have demonstrated leadership and a clear understanding of the importance of investing in science and engineering.
Of course we aren't at the finish line yet. We still face floor action and the appropriations conference. But I am breathing more easily this week, knowing that we are making good progress in helping our decision-makers understand what we do, and why it matters so much to the nation's future.
I look forward to final good budget news in the weeks to come.
