Newswise — (Sept. 8th, 2020 - Timonium, MD) -- Stella Maris, a top-rated nursing and long-term care facility located in Timonium, MD, and part of Mercy Health Services, has officially opened the new $30 million Sister Mary Karen McNally, RSM, Rehabilitation Center, Regina Figueroa, Chief Administrative Officer for Stella Maris has announced.

The new 76,000 square foot facility is designed to help patients achieve successful post-surgical goals, utilizing advanced therapy modalities to ease their transition to returning home.

“A quick return home is always ideal, but rehabilitation is essential if patients are to heal properly. Our new Rehabilitation Center is a state-of-the art subacute facility that provides cutting-edge therapy for patients so they can recover and continue to live independently, avoiding problems that may require a return to the hospital,” Ms. Figueroa said.

With a strong focus on individualized care, a full professional team of rehabilitation, skilled nursing and medical experts will develop a unique care plan for each patient, including an aftercare plan to help them maintain good health once at home to reduce the risk of future re-hospitalization and the need for long-term care.

The center features 60 private rooms with ensuite bathrooms, concierge service with restaurant-style dining, a comprehensive rehabilitative gym and garden and tastefully decorated patient and family gathering spaces and modern amenities.

The new Center is also one of two facilities in Maryland to offer patients the Bioness equipment for stroke and neurological recovery.

A recognized leader in innovative technologies, Bioness helps patients regain mobility and independence through functional electrical stimulation (FES) systems, robotic systems and software based therapy programs.

The new Center is located on the Stella Maris campus in Baltimore County which also includes The Counseling Center, St. Elizabeth Hall, an independent living apartment complex for seniors, and Mercy Ridge, a retirement community offering independent living as well as assisted living options.

The new facility is named for Sister Karen McNally, RSM, who retired in September 2019 after 50 years of service to Stella Maris. Sister Karen had served as Chief Administrative Officer since 1997.
