Renowned medical author and historian recognized for lifetime achievements in occupational medicine

Newswise — The American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine (ACOEM), an international medical society, presented its highest honor, the Knudsen Lifetime Achievement in Occupational and Environmental Medicine Award, to Tee L. Guidotti, MD, MPH, FACOEM, at the Opening Session of the 2013 American Occupational Health Conference in Orlando, Fla. The award was bestowed on April 28.

Dr. Guidotti, Consultant, Occupational and Environmental Health and Medicine, Washington, D.C., and Vice President for Health/Safety, Environment, and Sustainability at Medical Advisory Services of Rockville, Md., was recognized for his extraordinary scientific achievements in the field of occupational and environmental medicine (OEM) and for his service to ACOEM. An internationally recognized expert in OEM, Dr. Guidotti’s expertise includes epidemiology, toxicology, and occupational risk management.

Dr. Guidotti was specifically commended for his sole authorship of the three-volume The Praeger Handbook of Occupational and Environmental Medicine, a massive achievement published in 2010. He was also honored for his leadership and contributions to ACOEM, culminating in his presidency (2006-2007). His commitment to preserving ACOEM and OEM history and his 30 years in academics as professor, clinical chief, department chair, and institute director, reflect his dedication to the College and the specialty.

Dr. Guidotti received his MD from the University of California at San Diego and his MPH from the Johns Hopkins School of Hygiene and Public Health, Baltimore, Md. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Preventive Medicine in occupational medicine, the American Board of Internal Medicine in both internal and pulmonary medicine, and a diplomate of the American Board of Toxicology. Dr. Guidotti is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians, Royal College of Physicians of Canada (Occupational Medicine), the Canadian Board of Occupational Medicine, and of the Faculty of Occupational Medicine of the Royal College of Physicians (UK).

About the Knudsen Award — The Knudsen Lifetime Achievement in Occupational and Environmental Medicine Award was created in 1938 by William S. Knudsen, President of General Motors from 1937-1940, and an advocate for worker health and safety. Mr. Knudsen (1879-1948) established the award to recognize the value of occupational and environmental medicine. The award is presented annually to an individual who has had a distinguished career in one or more disciplines of occupational medicine, environmental medicine, and/or environmental health.
