MOVE BOMBING REMEMBERED -- Saturday, May 13, will mark the 15th anniversary of the MOVE bombing, where 11 people died, including five children, during an incendiary bombing in a police standoff in West Philadelphia. It's a tragedy that should never be forgotten, says Temple's Thad Mathis, a social administration professor. "The conditions that created it have not gone away." Reach Mathis at his office, 215/204-1227, or through the Office of News and Media Relations, 215/204-7476.

GETTA JOB? TEMPLE GRADS GOTTA JOB! -- Graduation is just days away, but many of Temple's best and brightest are either already working or getting ready to start their new careers. Kristen Graham, who is graduating with a journalism degree and a perfect 4.0 GPA, will start working as a reporter with the Philadelphia Inquirer later this summer.

Commencement speaker Mario Valenti, a mechanical and electrical engineering major, has been tapped by Boeing to work on the V-22 Osprey. And Reading's Elizabeth A. Morrison, a broadcasting, telecommunications and mass media major, will become assistant director of public relations at Bloomingdale's in King of Prussia. These graduates and many others can be reached by calling the Office of News and Media Relations.

HIGH-TECH FIRMS SEEK LIBERAL ARTS GRADS -- While recruiters continue to fight over computer programmers and web-site developers, high-tech industry is looking more and more to graduates with a liberal arts background, according to Temple's Office of Career Development Services. "In the new world of work, I predict that the most marketable degree will probably be found in the field of Liberal Arts with a minor in Computer and Information Sciences," says associate director Kathy Gallagher.

"Workers with communications skills, a large knowledge base, and good problem-solving skills will be very sought after." Gallagher also suggests that graduating students strategize their careers in a "Me, Inc." kind of way. "Today's employees are less like to remain with the same employer for their entire career. To be effective, workers will need self-marketing skills." Reach Gallagher through the Office of News and Media Relations.
