Newswise — Texas Oncology, P.A. will lease treatment facilities and purchase radiation therapy equipment at the three Fort Worth-area locations of the UT Southwestern Moncrief Cancer Center, medical center and company officials announced today.

Under the new arrangement, Texas Oncology will provide comprehensive cancer treatment services including radiation oncology, medical oncology, gynecological oncology, and cancer research and clinical trials along with advanced diagnostic imaging such as Positron Emission Tomography (PET) and Computerized Tomography (CT) at its treatment facilities in Fort Worth and Weatherford.

Three radiation oncologists, Rafael Chan, M.D., Jerry L. Barker Jr. M.D. and Kathleen Shide, M.D., who have provided services at the Moncrief Cancer Centers, have now joined the Texas Oncology network and will continue to deliver care at the cancer centers that fall under the new system.

The UT Southwestern Moncrief Cancer Center will continue its non-radiation programs in Tarrant County and, in conjunction with the Harold C. Simmons Comprehensive Cancer Center in Dallas, will begin offering a number of cutting-edge diagnostic, treatment and research options as well. Services that will be maintained in the Moncrief facilities include:

"¢ Access to advanced cancer diagnostic procedures under development at UT Southwestern."¢ Access to opportunities for patients to participate in UT Southwestern clinical trials. "This new arrangement brings enhanced resources, access to leading clinical trials through multiple institutions and advanced diagnostic procedures and treatment modalities to Fort Worth and Weatherford," says Steve Paulson, M.D., president of Texas Oncology. "We are pleased to be able to collaborate in this way to provide patients outstanding care at these locations."

"The services we will provide at the Moncrief facilities will enhance the scope of cancer care and the quality of life for patients in the Fort Worth area, which has been and always will be the mission of the Moncrief Cancer Foundation," said Dr. Willis Maddrey, chairman of the UT Southwestern Moncrief Cancer Center's board of directors and UT Southwestern executive vice president for clinical affairs. "The non-profit Moncrief Cancer Foundation will continue to support UT Southwestern's cancer-related activities in the Tarrant County area, ensuring access to special diagnostic and genetic tests that are otherwise unavailable, as well as important support services for individual patients and their families," Dr. Maddrey added.
