News Advisory:

On Tuesday, Dec. 14, the American Heart Association, the American Cancer Society and the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids will hold a press conference to release a new report examining the causes of the economic crisis facing American tobacco farmers. The comprehensive, 89-page report, "False Friends: The U.S. Cigarette Companies' Betrayal of American Tobacco Growers," concludes that U.S. cigarette company decisions to move manufacturing and growing operations abroad, and not gradual smoking declines in the United States, are the primary cause of this crisis.

ATTENTION REGIONAL REPORTERS: Two-way audioconference capability for regional reporters will be provided so that you may listen to the press conference and ask questions. Reporters interested in participating by audioconference should call Allison Blake at 202-296-5469 to reserve a space and obtain the number to call in.
