Newswise — CHARLOTTESVILLE, Virginia — 2 February 2015 — The University of Virginia Darden School of Business, Institute for Business in Society, Concordia and the U.S. Department of State Secretary’s Office of Global Partnerships today opened the application process for the P3 Impact Award, which recognizes model public-private partnerships (P3s) from around the world.
The three partners created the P3 Impact Award in 2014. In addition to recognizing and honoring P3s that are improving their communities, the competition provides thought leadership, promotes best practices and generates a database of information relevant to public-private partnerships. The winner of last year’s inaugural award was the CocoaLink partnership, which includes The Hershey Company, the Ghana Cocoa Board and the World Cocoa Foundation, for its innovative program using mobile technology to improve the lives of cocoa farmers. According to The Hershey Company’s Senior Vice President, Chief Growth and Marketing Officer, D. Michael Wege, "This award is particularly meaningful for all of us at The Hershey Company. CocoaLink's success in improving the lives of small holder Cocoa farmers, their families, and communities is directly attributable to the power of P3s."
The P3 Impact Award will be presented in September 2015 at the Concordia Summit in New York City. The award winner and finalists will also be highlighted in a special edition of the Darden School’s publication, Ideas to Action, which will be released during the Summit. Featuring leading practices and actionable insights from the winner and finalists, this report is used to develop teaching cases and other materials to share and advance best practices with public-private partnerships across the globe.
The award winner will also receive a full scholarship to attend a weeklong Darden Executive Education course.
Applications are being accepted now through 30 April 2015, and will be reviewed by an independent panel of esteemed judges. The winner and finalists will be selected from the international pool of applicants in July. Applicants must meet the definition of a "public-private partnership," which includes any cross-sector collaboration that features public, private, nongovernmental or nonprofit organizations that address societal problems. Criteria and the application form can be found on the P3 Impact Award website.
