The Whitehead Institute for Biomedical Researcher will hold its third annual press seminar, ìBrain and Psyche: The Neurobiology of the Self,î June 11 and 12, 1998. The event is being co-sponsored by the Massachusetts General Hospital and McLean Hospital.

The seminar will feature many of todayís top experts as speakers, among them, Steven Hyman, Director of the National Institute of Mental Health, Dennis Selkoe of Brigham & Women's Hospital, Eric Lander of the Whitehead Institute, Anne Young of Massachusetts General Hospital, Bruce Cohen of McLean Hospital, Steven Pinker of MIT, and Mahlon Delong of Emory University.

In addition, following a 4:30pm orientation on Wednesday, June 10, Bob Boorstin, senior advisor to Treasury Secretary Robert Rubin and former White House speechwriter, will talk about his personal experience in coping with manic depression. Boorstin has been an advocate for increased awareness and better insurance coverage for mental illness.

Like previous years, the press seminar has a dual purpose: to update reporters about the latest research and trends in the field and to provide them new ideas and resources for their stories. We will keep you posted about any late-breaking news or embargoed talks.
