Newswise — Loyola Center for Fitness is inviting women to take some time for themselves to attend a free health and wellness day on Saturday, Oct. 24.

Women's Day is designed to help women sharpen their mind, energize their body and improve their outlook on life. Activities will include health screenings, exhibits and seminars on topics such as stress management, nutrition and protection against H1N1 flu.

Women's Day will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Loyola Center for Fitness on the medical center campus, 2160 S. First Ave., Maywood.

Loyola Center for Fitness has been ranked the No. 1 fitness center by the Chicago Tribune Reader's Poll. This state-of-the-art facility has premium locker room amenities and degreed, certified professionals. The center will waive enrollment fees for women who become members on Women's Day.

Women's Day will feature experts in personal training, aesthetics, breast health, ophthalmology, orthopaedics and nutrition. Attendees also will have the opportunity to undergo vascular, blood pressure, cholesterol and skin cancer screenings.

Dr. Sandy Goldberg, a NBC5 News contributor and clinical nutritionist, will be the featured guest speaker at 11 a.m. She specializes in nutrition counseling and the treatment of eating disorders. She also is founder and chair of A Silver Lining Foundation. This non-profit organization ensures that a woman’s socioeconomic status does not impact her ability to obtain cancer resources, quality of life services and mammograms. Other speakers include:

10 a.m. – Dr. Bridgid Steele, medical director, Division of Primary Care & Women’s Services, Loyola University Health System, will provide an H1N1 flu update.

Noon – Dr. Mary Lou Gutierrez, assistant professor, Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Neurosciences, Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine, will present, “Does a Body Good – More than Just a Commercial: Identification and Management of Stress.”

12:45 p.m. – Dr. Richard Hershberger, assistant professor, Department of Surgery, Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine, will present, “Managing Varicose Veins.”
