8,000 Neurologists Expected To Attend 54th Annual Meeting Of The American Academy of Neurology, Set For April 13-20

WHAT: The American Academy of Neurology 54th Annual Meeting

WHEN: Saturday, April 13 through Saturday, April 20, 2002

WHERE: Colorado Convention Center, Denver

WHO: More than 8,000 neurologists from around the world are expected to attend

WHY: The AAN annual meeting provides an international forum for neurologists and neuroscientists to learn about the latest research findings in dementia, Parkinson's disease, obesity, stroke, epilepsy, headache, multiple sclerosis and many other topics of interest to neurologists, neuroscientists -- and the public at large. More than 1,100 scientific presentations will be made during the meeting.

Several major awards will be announced at the meeting as well, including the AAN Public Leadership Award -- given this year to the NBC-TV program West Wing, with actor Bradley Whitford (Josh Lyman on the show) accepting the award; and the prestigious Potamkin Prize for Research into Pick's and Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorders.

Keynote speakers at the plenary sessions include V.S. Ramachandran, M.D., Ph.D., University of California-San Diego speaking on "What Neurology Can Tell Us About Human Nature, Synthesia and the Meaning of Art," and Major General Perry M. Smith, Ph.D., bioterrorism expert speaking on "The War Against Terrorism: What to Expect, What You Can Do."

AAN public relations staff will also be present in the Media Room (Lobby C, Room 210, Colorado Convention Center) throughout the meeting. Staff will do all it can to accommodate individual media requests for interviews and additional information as needed.
