ZENECA PHARMACEUTICALS ANNOUNCES CARDIO.NET, A NEW INTERACTIVE INTERNET SITE FOR HEALTH CARE PROFESSIONALS

WILMINGTON, Del.-January 26, 1998 - A new interactive World Wide Web site sponsored by Zeneca Pharmaceuticals-Cardio.net (http://www.cardio.net)-now offers doctors and allied health professionals access to up-to-the-minute information on all aspects of cardiovascular medicine.

Cardio.net encourages the dissemination of ideas on cardiovascular management, demonstrating the commitment by Zeneca to helping provide the latest cardiovascular developments to an audience which is increasing use of on-line information sharing.

Cardio.net is a password-protected Internet site for clinicians managing cardiovascular disease and the vascular complications of diabetes worldwide. It is reviewed by an independent panel of international experts and has been designed using some of the latest multimedia technologies. "Cardio.net is a valuable addition to the resources available to physicians," said Carl Pepine, M.D., Professor of Medicine/Cardiology, University of Florida. "Its versatility provides us not only with information on current issues in cardiovascular medicine but also with the opportunity to interact and share information with our colleagues, thereby enhancing patient care."

Cardio.net is comprised of nine easily navigable sections;
1. "From the [email protected]" addresses a new issue or controversy each month.
2. Questions concerning each issue can be addressed to the panel in "Question the [email protected]." Answers to these questions are published on the site and archived for future reference, creating a regularly updated source of information.
3. A summary of the discussions from these two expert sections for the family practitioner can be found in "Cardio.net's Family Practice."
4. "Clinical Challenge" uses the clinician's skill and knowledge to solve challenging case histories.
5. "Cardio.net's On-line Bibliography" contains information on relevant cardiovascular publications.
6. The professionally designed images contained in "Images Direct" concentrate on key areas in cardiovascular management, and these can be downloaded to create educational slides.
7. Recognizing the need for easily located information which health care professionals can use for their patients on a day-to-day basis, the "Patient Information Resource" section is subdivided into aspects of cardiovascular management, allowing rapid access by busy physicians.
8. Information on cardiovascular meetings is located in "Cardiology Explorer."
9. Reviews of current meetings are compiled on-site by the Cardio.net panel and can be found in "Congress Reports." During important meetings, such as the American Heart Association, the site is updated overnight so that incisive commentary on the latest developments can be provided by the next morning.

Over 1,200 clinicians from 68 countries have already registered with Cardio.net, which can be found at http://www.cardio.net. The site was premiered at the November 1997 American Heart Association meeting, where people were able to register on-site at the Zeneca booth.

Access to the site is protected by a password, and upon entering the homepage the user is required to register. A unique identification name is then sent to the user by E-mail. Cardio.net is sponsored by an unrestricted educational grant from Zeneca Pharmaceuticals.
