Newswise — The first American Journal of Nursing Conference: Advancing Excellence in Nursing Practice will bring together a multidisciplinary group of nurses dedicated to improving the health and quality of life for patients on October 4-6, at the Hyatt Regency McCormick Place in Chicago, IL. This new national conference will showcase evidence-based nursing practices and is designed for clinical nurse specialists, clinicians and clinical nurse leaders, nurses in staff development and clinical research, experienced staff nurses and clinical managers and nurse educators.

The conference is sponsored by American Journal of Nursing (AJN), the award-winning premier publication of Lippincott Williams & Wilkins, part of Wolters Kluwer Health, a leading provider of information and business intelligence for students, professionals, and institutions in medicine, nursing, allied health, pharmacy and the pharmaceutical industry.

The conference will provide an update on evidence-based practices for nurses practicing, teaching, or conducting research and QI projects in clinical settings, and offer nurses a forum for interacting with experts and colleagues to gain new knowledge, skills, and insights to improve the quality of patient care. Nurses are invited to submit poster presentations (go to www.ajnconference.com).

"In a year when healthcare reform is taking center stage, the focus of this conference is especially timely as evidence-based practice provides nurses with successful solutions in solving problems around the delivery of safe, cost-effective care," said Conference Co-Chair Diana J. Mason, PhD, RN, FAAN.

At the conclusion of the conference, attendees will be able to:

"¢ Identify successful solutions nurses have implemented in solving problems around the delivery of safe, cost-effective care;

"¢ Describe evidence-based practices around critical assessment, care plans and clinical pathways, diabetes management, using technology to enhance delivery of care, cardiovascular disease, pain guidelines, and more;

"¢ Discuss the ramifications of new federal regulations associated with preventable hospital conditions and how nurses can be proactive in managing them;

"¢ Identify their own positions, roles, and plan of action during ethical, legal, or interpersonal conflicts in the workplace.
