Philadelphia, PA, April 30, 2001 -- Lippincott Williams & Wilkins (LWW) has launched comprehensive new content and features at LWWoncology.com, (www.LWWoncology.com) its leading Internet community for oncology professionals.

LWWoncology.com has featured the full text of the world-renowned Cancer: Principles & Practice of Oncology and its popular update series since its launch in December 2000. New content now available includes the full texts of:

* Diseases of the Breast, 2nd edition

* The American Joint Committee on Cancer's Cancer Staging Manual, 5th edition* The Manual of Clinical Oncology, 4th edition.

Additional content to be added later in 2001 includes The Cancer Chemotherapy Source Book, 3rd edition and Principles & Practice of the Biologic Therapy of Cancer, 3rd edition.

"Just as the treatment of breast cancer has rapidly advanced in the past few years, so should the clinician's ability to access vital information about the disease," said Jay R. Harris, M.D., lead author of Diseases of the Breast. "By making this text and others available online, we are expanding access to critical clinical information and taking full advantage of another important way that technology can aid in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer."

New site features include a Bookmark Organizer that lets users create a custom, online "virtual textbook" with content of their choice selected from the four major texts available. Once selected, users can revisit their customized textbook, and add or delete content at their discretion.

"This feature adds an exciting new customer focus to online publishing," said Jonathan Pine, Senior Executive Editor. "Now, our customers can choose the information most valuable to them, and in essence, create their own textbook."

The site is enhanced by editorially derived meta data, a sophisticated technology that provides highly focused search results and immediate access to relevant information. Unlike large, undifferentiated reference databases, LWWoncology.com is ideal for use in both clinical and research environments.

LWW recently signed institutional subscription agreements with Fox Chase Cancer Center, Philadelphia and Loyola University Health Sciences Library, Chicago, providing access to LWWoncology.com for professionals at these institutions. The site also has trial installations at Hong Kong Medical University and National Taiwan University Hospital, and more than 1,300 individual registered users.

"The feedback from users and institutions about LWWoncology.com has been overwhelmingly positive," said Meg White, Director of Digital Business Development. "Our challenge is to continue to leverage the dynamic nature of the Internet to provide more and better tools and resources for cancer professionals."

LWWoncology.com is a subscription website, with discounted prices offered to purchasers of the 6th edition of Cancer: Principles and Practice of Oncology. Online-only subscriptions are also available, along with institutional subscriptions for multiple concurrent users. For more information or to subscribe, visit www.LWWoncology.com.

Launched in December 2000, LWWoncology.com was the company's first entry into comprehensive web-based portals for medical professionals, and is an outgrowth of parent company Wolters Kluwer's strategic directive to develop sites for professionals and accelerate migration to the Internet. Last month, LWW launched LWWmedicine.com, a similar site with content and tools for Internal Medicine professionals.
