Two ceramic engineers at the University of Missouri-Rolla are conducting research on what could be the next generation of ceramic tiles for NASA's space shuttle program.

Dr. Greg Hilmas and Dr. William G. Fahrenholz, both assistant professors of ceramic engineering, are working with NASA and the Air Force on a new program involved in the development of ultra-high temperature ceramics. One of the applications for these ceramics, according to Hilmas, is for the next generation of reusable launch vehicles or space shuttles.
