Newswise — Christmas shopping is kicking into high gear, but what if you're a little short on cash this year? "If you haven't had a great year financially, consider telling this to the people on your Christmas list — not so they'll give you money, but so they won't expect as big a gift, or one at all," said UAB finance professor Lance Nail, Ph.D. Shrinking the list is a valid response to lack of funds. "Talk with those you exchange gifts with and suggest not exchanging gifts, or agreeing to much lower dollar limits on gifts. By doing this, you're probably doing them a big favor, as well." Keeping rein on your credit card usage also can help keep holiday finances in check and make for a happier new year.
