As the US task force just announced lowering the recommended age to start colorectal cancer screening to 45, Dr. Howard Ross of Hackensack Meridian Health in New Jersey says this has been a long time coming as colon cancer is increasing in the young. Nearly 18,000 people under the age of 50 will be diagnosed with colorectal cancer this year in the United States.
Screening should begin earlier. "We don't really have a choice any longer," says Ross.
