Although every woman's cycle is different, conception is possible on almost any day. "Appropriately used contraception can prevent unplanned pregnancies, and the efficacy of contraception can be increased by understanding when a woman is most fertile. The greatest chance of conception occurs just before, during and after ovulation. For women with regular, 28-day cycles, ovulation is likely to occur 14 days before the next menstrual period. The first day of a woman's period is considered Day 1." The fertile period can vary and may even change from cycle to cycle.
