Forum For Law Students Prepares Future Lawyers To Make Informed Environmental Decisions

In an effort to better prepare tomorrow's environmental decision-makers, the New England Aquarium is hosting an intense, one-day workshop for law students on Friday, April 7, 2000. The goal is to train lawyers to make sound ecological choices and establish solid legislation, based on evaluating balanced scientific information.

This is an enormously pro-active route to environmental management. Environmentalists agree that the key to saving our planet lies with the generations to come. Through this program, we are truly laying the groundwork for our future. This is the first forum of its kind in the country. It is expected to draw more than 50 law students and faculty from Harvard University, Northeastern University, Boston University, Boston College, Suffolk University and the New England School of Law. There is no fee to attend the forum.

This program is the brainchild of Dr. David Niebuhr, scientist, Virginia Institute of Marine Science and the College of William and Mary, who saw a huge gap in environmental knowledge among our nation's lawmakers. Dr. Niebuhr along with Dr. Mike Connor, Vice President of Programs and Exhibits, New England Aquarium, formerly with the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority, will speak on a number of topics including: examining today's global aquatic issues, evaluating risk, managing water resources and discussing science's role in the decision-making process. Leading environmental researchers and scientists facilitate discussion sessions.

The New England Aquarium is dedicated to strengthening society's relationship with the world of water through hands-on programs, live animal and interactive exhibits, and public lectures and forums on timely aquatic conservation issues.
