GASOLINE ADDITIVE DEBATE PRESENTED AT THE AMERICAN CHEMICAL SOCIETY'S NATIONAL MEETING

WHAT: Methyl-t-butyl ether (MTBE) has been added to gasoline in many areas of the United States, but its environmental impact has not yet been fully assessed. MTBE is used to increase octane ratings and reduce pollutants regulated by the Clean Air Act. During the American Chemical Society's (ACS) national meeting (April 13- 17) MTBE will be among the 680 technical sessions involving 7,700 presentations. ACS will hold a press briefing which will address the pros and cons of MTBE and latest data on environmental questions about its use.
