How to Pick a Bank

With all of the money banks spend on advertising services such as free checking accounts and no ATM fees, it can be confusing to choose which bank is best for you. "Banks draw your attention with advertising campaigns, and once they get you in the door they are eager to not only provide you with a checking account but also to tie you into other products and services," says UAB banking and financial services marketing expert Michael Bowers, Ph.D. "The best way to choose a bank is to examine your needs before you go in. If you are young and just starting out, all you may need is a checking account, an ATM and credit card. If this is the case, shop for a checking account, credit card fees and ATM access. Knowing what you need before you walk in is key to making a sound decision."
