Newswise — The Institute of Food Technologists (IFT) and the Chinese Institute of Food Science and Technology (CIFST) debuted the inaugural issue of Global Food Industry at the 2009 IFT Annual Meeting and Food Expo®. IFT and CIFST have had a strong relationship for more than a decade and the joint publishing initiative with IFT's Food Technology magazine has been a key goal of both organizations for several years.
Global Food Industry aims to be the premier publication in China addressing the science of food. Both organizations' commitment to food science has been demonstrated through joint programming over the past decade and will be highlighted during the 2009 IFT-CIFST Food Summit in Beijing on November 8-10, 2009.
"The debut of Global Food Industry is a demonstration of the growing partnership between IFT and CIFST. Food science and food safety issues transcend borders, and our goal for this publication is to contribute to a broader scientific dialogue in China and throughout the world," said IFT Executive Vice President Barbara Byrd Keenan.
The new publication helps to fulfill one of IFT's four goals of global citizen and partner, specifically, contributing to the global dissemination, advancement, and application of the science of food. This is a progression of IFT's relationship with CIFST. IFT's past successes have included four "IFT-CIFST Food Summits" that have covered important global food industry issues such as food safety, the training and development of food scientists, and global harmonization of food laws and regulations. This is a platform designed to be an important communication vehicle for food scientists & technologists and to showcase the scientific and industrial developments in the US and China. This exchange of information will contribute to ensuring a safe and sufficient global food supply.
