Newswise — As part of the Institute of Food Technologists’ (IFT) efforts to serve as a catalyst for innovation, IFT offered a new Open Innovation Program at this year’s IFT Annual Meeting & Food Expo® (July 17-20, 2010) in Chicago.
IFT’s Open Innovation Program provides Food Expo® exhibitors with unique access to current strategic needs of major food companies and the opportunity to formally submit their potential solutions. Participating companies will be scheduling private face-to-face meetings with exhibitors at IFT Expo in July. General Mills, Sara Lee, Kraft Foods, and McCormick participated in the pilot program.
“The best ideas come from a convergence of ideas, and it is our hope that IFT’s Open Innovation Program will help energize product development, meet ever-changing consumer demand and fuel business growth,” said IFT Executive Vice President Barbara Byrd Keenan.
The IFT Annual Meeting and Food Expo is the world’s single largest annual scientific meeting and technical exposition of its kind, with more than 1,500 scientific sessions and over 1,000 of the industry’s largest collection of ingredients, equipment and packaging suppliers all under one roof. This year the IFT Food Expo has sold out with more than 2,100+ booths in the 230,000 net square feet at Chicago’s McCormick Place Convention Center. Total attendance is expected to be over 20,000.
