Newswise — Baltimore, MD - Levindale Hebrew Geriatric Center and Hospital is proud to receive a $15,000 grant from the Bank of America Charitable Foundation to support the center’s Workforce Development career coach specialist. This is the third consecutive year that Bank of America has allotted funds for this Levindale program.

The career coach position was created to recruit and train job seekers in nearby communities to become geriatric nursing assistants (GNAs). Once they are hired, the career coach also assists these employees with professional and personal goals.

“Bank of America’s generosity will touch many lives. It will provide the opportunity for new employees to begin a career in healthcare with the support and guidance they need to succeed,” said Neil Meltzer, president and CEO of LifeBridge Health, Levindale’s parent company. “It will also come full circle when those employees treat our patients and residents with their new-found skills and compassion.”

Because the GNA position will be the first job for many in this program, it is imperative that the career coach work hand-in-hand with them to help them stay on the right career path.

“Levindale’s geriatric nursing assistants program not only draws candidates from the local community, but it is creating jobs that offer a path to greater opportunity, success and financial stability,” said David Millman, Maryland and Baltimore market president, Bank of America. “We are proud to work with Levindale and know that GNAs are learning new skills that they will be able to use to advance their careers.” Levindale’s career coach gives participants the chance to develop communication, culture and sensitivity skills that lead to job satisfaction. They also learn on the job computer literacy, financial planning, academic tutoring, the importance of punctuality and how to interact with others.

Thanks to the Bank of America grant, the career coach also provides resources to resolve personal issues, including unreliable child care, lack of transportation, housing, legal issues, or budgeting.

Levindale is part of LifeBridge Health, one of the largest, most comprehensive health care systems in Maryland. In addition to Levindale, LifeBridge Health includes Sinai Hospital, Northwest Hospital, Carroll Hospital, and other subsidiaries and affiliates.
