* Nationally recognized expert in animal health and nutrition. Teaches courses in cattle production, nutrition for large animals and large animal medicine. Was in England during foot and mouth disease (FMD) outbreak in the 1960s. Was veterinary officer in Africa and Southeast Asia throughout the 1980s and dealt with epidemic disease threats, including FMD. Has studied foreign animal disease threats at USDA research center on Plum Island (1992). Helped develop a national program for aiding and rescuing animals after natural disasters such as floods and hurricanes. Most recent journal article "Emergency management of disasters involving livestock in developing countries." Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania, 1976; Bachelor's of Veterinary Medicine from London University, 1969.

* Is the author of book chapters and journal articles on the socioeconomic implications of new agricultural technologies. As a missionary in South America, worked with cattle herds infected with foot and mouth disease. Has expertise in international agricultural trade agreements. Has served as a consultant for the World Bank, Ford Foundation and U.S./Mexico Chamber of Commerce. Was named outstanding teacher in agricultural economics at Purdue in 1997, 1987-89. Has traveled and worked professionally in more than 20 countries. Has lived in South America six years, of which four were in Bolivia. Has taught as a visiting professor in Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Belgium, Canada, Hungary, Italy, Mexico, Portugal, Spain, The Netherlands, Switzerland and Russia. Has extensive media experience.

Previously worked with the Economic Research Service of the U.S. Department of Agriculture in the International Trade Policy Section and the Commodity Policy Section. Joined the Purdue faculty in 1985 specializing in U.S. agricultural policy in global markets. In 1991-92 received an Alexander von Humboldt Fellowship to analyze the economic transformation of eastern German agriculture. Is a member of the Alexander von Humboldt Association of the USA, the American Agricultural Economics Association, and the International Agricultural Trade Research Consortium. Teaches international agricultural trade. Has written numerous papers on export subsidies and other trade policies. Has experience working with print, radio and television media.
