Chicago (August 1, 2016): APHON has earned both a 2016 ASAE Power of A Gold and Silver Award for its Pediatric Chemotherapy/Biotherapy Provider Program. The objectives of the APHON Chemotherapy and Biotherapy Provider Program are to establish education and practice standards for the administration of chemotherapy and biotherapy to children and adolescents and to promote consistent practices in the administration of chemotherapy and biotherapy to pediatric and adolescent oncology patients.

Chicago (July 25, 2016): APHON submitted comments to the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) supporting regulations to allow Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRNs) to practice to the full extent of their education, training, and certification. The pediatric hematology/oncology APRN’s scope of practice embraces the entire lifespan from infants to adults and the full trajectory from diagnosis to long-term survivorship/health surveillance of cancer or chronic blood disorders.

Chicago (Oct. 13, 2015) – The Association of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Nurses (APHON) has endorsed the Psychosocial Standards of Care for Children with Cancer and their families to be published in a 2015 special issue of Pediatric Blood and Cancer. The scientific, evidence-based psychosocial standards define a minimum level of care that all children with cancer and their families should receive. The Standards were developed following rigorous research and academic requirements and processes, and involved over 60 clinicians and researchers from the US, Canada and the Netherlands.

Echtenkamp received her award at the 39th Annual APHON Conference and Exhibit, held September 17-19 in Providence, RI. Chicago (Oct. 12, 2015): The Association of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Nurses (APHON) elected Kathleen Ruccione, PhD MPH RN FAAN CPON®, to serve as President for the 2015-2017 term. Ruccione took office at the recent 39th Annual APHON Conference and Exhibit, held September 17-19 in Providence, RI. Kathy has been an active member of APHON for more than 30 years; she founded the Southern California chapter, served on multiple committees and helped write some of APHON’s educational publications.
