Mark Loeb, a professor of pathology and molecular medicine is an expert on emerging infectious diseases, infections in seniors, respiratory infections and antimicrobial use and resistance. He has led research programs on SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome), respiratory infections in the elderly and antibiotic resistance.
Karen Mossman, a professor of pathology and molecular medicine, researches how the body’s immune system fights off viruses. When a virus infects a host, the host mounts an impressive immune response aimed at preventing the virus from multiplying and spreading. However, viruses have evolved strategies to block this response and ensure their survival.
Loeb and Mossman are both investigators with McMaster University’s Michael G. DeGroote Institute for Infectious Disease Research.
