Newswise — (Kansas City, MO): The Vasculitis Foundation (VF) announces the three winners of its 2016 Recognizing Excellence in Diagnostics (RED) Award.
The VF RED Award is presented annually to a medical professional who made a quick diagnosis of vasculitis, thus enabling the patient to receive timely and appropriate treatment, potentially sparing the patient permanent and ongoing health complications.
“The goal of the V-RED Award is to honor these healthcare professionals because they are a part of our goal to raise awareness about the need for earlier diagnosis of vasculitis,” says Joyce Kullman, Executive Director of the Vasculitis Foundation. “So often our patients fail to get an early diagnosis because vasculitis symptoms can mimic so many other conditions. We created the V-RED Award to single out those medical professionals who did catch the disease in its early stages, thus improving the outcome for the patient.”
The 2016 V-RED Awardees are: • Dr. Seth Sullivan, Clinical Educator/Hospitalist at Norwalk Hospital, Norwalk, Connecticut. He was nominated by his patient, David Tait, diagnosed with Eosinophilic Granulomatosis with Polyangiitis (EGPA/Churg-Strauss Syndrome).• Dr. Kate Kinney, Monroe Clinic, Monroe Wisconsin. Dr. Kinney was nominated by Michael Gunderson, a patient with GPA, Wegener’s vasculitis.• Dr. Jeffrey Raines, a General Obstetrician/Gynecologist and supervisor for the Obstetric/Gynecology Department of Medical Center in Maple Grove, Minnesota . He was nominated by Jan Petersen, whose daughter, Jodi Rezac, was diagnosed with vasculitis after a routine blood test conducted during her pregnancy.
Each of the winning physicians received a VF V-RED Award plaque at individual award ceremonies held at their medical institutions.
