Nuclear Medicine Program at Riverview Medical Center Receives Accreditation by the American College of Radiology for the Second TimeGold seal awarded for the highest level of quality and patient safety

Newswise — Red Bank, N.J. – Riverview Medical Center has, for the second time, been awarded a three-year term of accreditation in nuclear medicine resulting from a review by the American College of Radiology (ACR).

Nuclear medicine uses trace amounts of radioactive material to diagnosis and treat a variety of diseases including cancers, gastrointestinal abnormalities, heart disease, problems associated with the endocrine system, and more.

“The ACR gold seal of accreditation represents the highest level of image quality and patient safety,” says Leo J. Fontana, M.D. “We are proud of our team, our technology, and techniques to ensure that we provide our patients with the most accurate diagnoses, in an environment that is both high-tech and high-touch.”

The ACR awards the gold seal only to facilities meeting ACR Practice Guidelines and Technical Standards, following a peer-review evaluation by board-certified physicians and medical physicists, who are experts in the field. Image quality, personnel qualifications, adequacy of facility equipment, quality control procedures, and quality assurance programs are assessed. The findings are reported to the ACR Committee on Accreditation, which subsequently provides the practice with a comprehensive report they can use for continuous practice improvement.

The ACR is a national professional organization serving more than 36,000 diagnostic/interventional radiologists, radiation oncologists, nuclear medicine physicians, and medical physicists with programs focusing on the practice of medical imaging and radiation oncology and the delivery of comprehensive health care services. They offer accreditation programs in 10 imaging modalities including CT, MRI, breast MRI, nuclear medicine, and PET.

Riverview Medical Center’s Diagnostic Imaging Center provides a full array of services with convenient hours, including x-ray, PET/CT and CT scan, MRI, ultrasound, nuclear medicine, and interventional radiology.
